The final weekend of the ASA South West Regional Age-Group Championships saw YDSC's rising stars grab another 10 medals to take their tally to an unprecedented 17 medals as well as 1st and 3rd places in the bagcat awards!

First event up was the girls 200 metres freestyle. 11 year-old Maddy White swam a great 8 second pb to place a respectable 13th. In the 13 year-olds Beth Aitchison claimed our first medal of the weekend with a hard fought silver.

In the boys 200 metres IM 11 year-old Zak Aitchison swam a 6 second pb to qualify for the final in 5th place. Racing even faster in the finals is what it is all about and Zak swam a fantastic final to drop another 2 seconds to 2:48.19, pick up 2 places and took the bronze medal - great swim Zak. 13 year-old Daniel Liu was once again racing head-to-head with the national champion in this event. In a very close and exciting race Daniel had to settle for silver but the pair will do battle again in 5 weeks time at Sheffield!

In the 200 metres backstroke 12 year-old Ben Tipler swam a 3 second pb to place 16th. Well done Ben. In the girls 200 metres IM Maddy White swam a 9 second pb for 16th place. Beth Aitchison swam a great 5 second pb to touch in 2:34.55 and claim the bronze medal in the 13 years.

In the boys 100 metres breaststroke Zak Aitchison swam an awesome 1:24.09 to take the gold medal. This time ranks Zak 2nd in the 11 year-olds for the Sheffield event in 5 weeks time. Not to be outdone Daniel Liu then dropped 3 seconds off of his breaststroke to go 1:12.39 and is also ranked 2nd by only 3/100ths going into the nationals. Breaststroke will be strong event for YDSC at Sheffield - watch this space.
