Four of our Performance Squad swimmers are celebrating two successful weeks of competing at Nationals at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield alongside the country’s top young athletes.

Harriet Watts and Jessica Carroll, were the first to race at the British Summer Championships.

Harriet aged 15, who recently returned from Croatia, representing the South West ASA at her first International meet, competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m back stroke.  She finalled in two events and finished in very impressive 5th place for 100m back and 6th place for 200 back.  This was Harriets third year at Nationals and most definitely her most successful to date.

Jess, aged 16, like Harriet is no stranger to competing at this high level with this being  her fourth Nationals and having previously competed at two British Championships.  She qualified for the 50m and 100m breast stroke, despite having a busy year studying for her GCSE’s.

Jasmine Moore and Aaron Bartlett represented the club at the Swim England Summer Nationals at the same venue the following week.

Aaron (16), was returning to the event for the third year running, hoping to defend the title of 50m breast stroke champion that he had won the previous year in the 16 years category.  Determined  not to relinquish it, he won again with a personal best of  30.15 sec in an exciting 17  years final.  He also competed  in 100m breast stroke final finishing in 6th place.  An outstanding achieve-ment to  win Gold at two successive Championships.

Jasmine , age 15 has had an outstanding year and qualified for Nationals for the very first time under Coach Richards programme.  She did so in 50m and 200m back stroke and 50m butterfly.  To compete in two different strokes in both sprint and distance events really demonstrates her versatility as an up and coming young athlete.

All four have developed their swimming from a young age through YDSC having joined the club during their primary school years and progressing through it’s squad structure.  They have been coached by our club’s army of skilled volunteer coaches and now train under the guidance of our Head Coach Rebecca Richards.

Congratulations to you all!

You have done yourselves and the Club proud!
