Race Planning

Our Race Models & Process Objectives document helps swimmers and coaches work together to plan, execute, and review high‑quality race performances. It provides a structured way for athletes to set clear pre‑race goals, identify key technical focus areas, and track important elements such as stroke rates, stroke counts, and split times across each section of a race.

The template is designed to support swimmers in understanding how they race, not just the final time. It guides them through:

  • Pre‑race preparation – setting objectives, identifying race “hotspots,” and clarifying the focus for each 25m/50m segment.
  • Race modelling – recording target stroke rates, stroke counts, and split predictions to build an ideal race plan.
  • Post‑race reflection – capturing coach feedback, athlete self‑reflection, and identifying areas for improvement.

By using this tool, swimmers can develop greater race awareness, improve consistency, and build the skills needed for long‑term progression.
